EVENT STRATEGIST & TEAM LEAD

As Event Strategist, you will lead our events team in creating and implementing event strategy (both live and digital), measurement and design while providing leadership and support for our Events Team. The Event Strategist is a dual role of both strategy and execution, overseeing the formulation and implementation of event strategy for all internal and external events as well as actively managing and executing events, while, ensuring that all events reach their full business potential through the alignment of the event strategy with the organization’s business strategy. The Planner side of the role is committed to doing things right, and the Strategist side of the role is committed to doing the right things.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct strategic analysis activities to assist clients and MM Events Team members define event vision, mission and goals. Fully understand the dynamics of each client and their industry intricacies.

  • Develop, propose, implement and execute strategies for digital, in-person and hybrid events

  • Research market and industry trends that will impact event performance

  • Responsible for leading and executing events

  • Identify event metrics and key performance indicators, based on client input, event industry and measurement best practices

  • Supervision and accountability for events division outcomes and team members (leading, managing, training) consciously creating a workplace culture that is consistent with Managing Matters’ core values and emphasizes the Managing Matters mission, vision and goals

  • Abiding by, embracing and enforcing Managing Matters’ internal policies and procedures

  • Determine roles and responsibilities of client teams, assigning responsibilities for each event they are managing.  Delegating work, accountability, and managing workload

  • Empower team members to own their goals and responsibilities while fostering a spirit of teamwork and unity that allows for discussion of differing ideas, the value of diversity and lifting each other to reach individual and team success

  • Coaching skills to coach, mentor and develop the team ensuring onboarding, career development through performance management and assessment for opportunities within

  • Maintaining transparent communication, through team meetings, one on one meetings and appropriate email and interpersonal communication. 

  • Lead and drive the development of the Events Team, continued development of training modules and identification of new initiatives

  • Relationship management with clients, including onboarding and transitioning

  • Collaboration, training, cross-functional planning with other division leads

  • Participate in resource & team planning as well as forecasting

  • Plan, evaluate, and improve the efficiency of business processes and procedures to enhance speed, quality and efficiency

  • Formulate and implement strategies and tactics that ensures goals and objectives of the events are met

  • Participate in business development initiatives and revenue generating ideas with clients

  • Collect, read, analyze, interpret and synthesize information from a variety of external sources and develop strategic insights and points of view to guide clients and MM Events Team

  • Deliver assigned strategic deliverables (i.e. presentations, creative briefs, measurement reports) to support MM Clients and MM Leadership Team

  • Maintain quality control and ensure that projects and services fulfill client needs

  • Involvement in the annual budget creation process for clients, provide recommendations to the board of directors for strategic and financial event goals

  • Client assessments, auditing conferences and client scope

Desired skills and Experience

  • Relevant post-secondary education with 7-10 years’ experience of relevant work experience in events

  • CMP designation

    • Leadership and qualification in the following requirements of a CMP

  • DES designation or in progress

  • Experience in supervising and managing a team of event planners

  • Possess a depth of knowledge and experience in one or more of the following: association management and events; corporate events/marketing; technology industry; and professional services

  • Experience in digital, social and mobile technologies, strategies and tactics

  • Adept in all business software applications; mastery of Microsoft PowerPoint (must be able to build a deck), Excel and Word as well as experience using various email marketing tools and digital platforms

  • Tech-savvy, ability to embrace and use cloud-based software tools adeptly

  • Depth of experience in association and event management software and databases. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience in creating websites and website content

  • Experience in working with a graphic designer considered an asset

  • Participation in creation and initiation of sponsorship initiatives for virtual and live events and/or association management is an asset

  • Ability to work in a team and independently

  • Ability to multitask and work effectively on various projects simultaneously while inspiring a team of event professionals

  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail while managing multiple tasks and working under time constraints

  • Ability to evaluate problems, generate potential solutions and implement the best solutions in an efficient manner
